Tele-Conferencing* Programmes throughout BC for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Infants and Children
"A Sound Move - Tele-Intervention" (birth - 3) is designed to meet the needs of families whose newborns have been diagnosed as deaf or hard-of-hearing and intends to reach out to families living in suburban, rural and remote areas throughout the province of BC. The tele-intervention service provides families with an accessible, affordable and comprehensive early intervention programme for their child.
In British Columbia, Children's Hearing & Speech Centre of BC continues to be the only agency
with licensed staff certified to practice Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT). AVT is the 'best practice' standard of early
intervention oral therapy for infants and toddlers who are deaf and hard-of-hearing.
The principle of AVT is for a deaf and hard-of-hearing child to acquire good listening, speech and language skills, enter a ' mainstream' school, learn to advocate for themselves as they grow older and, ultimately, to make their own choices about life and career. AVT provides a positive path for families to follow in the growth and development of their child.
Our "Stepping Out Outreach Programme" (K to Grade 12) now provides itinerant teaching services throughout BC via tele-conferencing. Our Stepping Out Outreach Programme is a comprehensive service customized to meet the specific needs of your student and school.
